I made a recording of a heartbeat today using my ancient mini-cassette recorder. The last time it was used was when my sister borrowed it for her pre-nursing classes. This was in her “I’m motivated to study” days before what we like to call “the dark times.” I’m not sure how helpful it was to her since the recorded lecture was still in the machine when I unearthed it—who knows if it had ever been listened to?
As far as the recording, the most difficult part was routing the output into my soundcard so I could email it to technically impaired relatives everywhere. You can hear the heartbeat about seven seconds in, then the baby squirms away, hides for about ten seconds, and then you pick it back up quite clearly at the end.
Anyway, the heartbeat was strong and my sister (back in “I’m motivated” mode) is on her way to a May graduation from nursing school—so all is well.
